Definition: Daguerreotypes were the first commercially successful photographic process. The image is a direct positive made in the camera on a silvered copper plate. The raw material for plates was called Sheffield plate, plating by fusion or cold-rolled cladding and was a standard hardware item produced by heating and rolling silver foil in contact with a copper support. The surface of a daguerreotype is like a mirror, with the image made directly on the silvered surface; it is very fragile and can be rubbed off with a finger, and the finished plate has to be angled so as to reflect some dark surface in order to view the image properly. Depending on the angle viewed, and the color of the surface reflected into it, the image can change from a positive to a negative.

The worn, metal like decayed look these plates give to photographs is just priceless. I've been working at these for years trying to get them to look as realistic as possible and I think it finally worked!! ...wait until you see these CLOSE UP!! The realism, the different textures, scratches, colors and the quality are all truly exceptional in my opinion.

Each metal plate here was carefully created using old Daguerreotypes of mine. Of course each had a picture so I had to remove that and tweak it a lot adding additional, yet realistic texture to each plate.

Whether you scrap with old pictures or new, these grungy, decayed metal plates are a must have! All you have to do is merge any photo of yours over the metal plate, blend till you get your desired look and wah-la it's now even more fabulous!

Use these as is, as masks or as overlays for blending into your photos for endless effects. These would even look great in your own favorite frames.

Included:
5 lg. (smallest approx 6x7.5, most others 7x11) un-framed daguerreotype plates

*Exceptional quality makes these great for professional photography use also. Please see my "Scrap for Hire Professional Use License" here in the shop for further details.
