Our January 2009 collab was inspired by the writing of Studio Crew member, Kim Gabriel (aka nevermore):

I am not sure it is possible to unlink imagination and creativity. The first is the vision, the second the vision made manifest. The vision that I speak of is the the vision of the mind's eye. It performs a synesthesia: it feels textures, smells, hears and tastes and is unburdened by time, distance or space. It is not forced to measure in units or calculate angles. It can search freely, without restraint, in every nook and cranny, because it is unburdened by truisms, guidelines, or maps. It can turn facts that weigh like anchors into stones to be hurled through glass walls of ignorance and blindness and acceptance and arrange the slivered glass into mosaics and frescos and poetry that sing of truth released. The imaginative mind's eye creates our vision of ourselves and our world and ourselves in our world over and over and over again in a long unfolding pattern that tells the story of ourselves.

If I think imagination and kits, I envision non symmetric patterns in fabric-like materials located well off the trodden colour palettes: no tetrads or triads or monochromes. I do not envision a single straight line. Or a single ninety degree angle. I see building materials: pieces of photographs, parts of frames, bits of wall that are open invitations, not finished products. I see unstructured elements: beads unstrung, string untied, ribbons unbowed. Flower parts. Body parts. Swatches of paint and pencil and pen and coloured pencil. Unfinished maps. Open doors. Some sky, some water. Some ice. Some rain forest.

This collab is full of all sorts of starters that will help you create some amazing pages in 2009. We think it's the perfect doldrum buster if you're ensconced in winter, and just the ticket if you're off to the beach somewhere this month. Our contributing designers are: Alana McCarthy, Baers Garten Designs, Berna Datema, Bluebell Design, Dana Frantz, Doris Castle, Ellie Lash, Flergs, Fontologie, Helene Douchet, Jan Hosford, Studio mgl, Phuong Ton, Tangie Baxter, and Wendyzine Scraps.
